چکیده

We consider the problem of tunneling MPLS label switched paths (LSPs) over an optical network in which λ-channels (lightpaths) of a fixed capacity are the main mechanism of transport. While any set of LSPs, each LSP having an arbitrary rate, can be tunneled over a given λ-channel as long as the aggregate rate does not exceed the channel’s capacity, intuition suggests that this flexibility has a limit. In other words, we believe that it is sufficient for the network to provide a small set of fixed service levels in terms of the LSP data rate. We present an efficient dynamic programming algorithm to obtain an optimal set of service levels given (a) a fixed set of LSPs and corresponding bandwidth requests, or (b) the probability distribution of LSP bandwidth requests. The set of optimal service levels strikes a balance between the conflicting goals of simplicity and performance. Numerical results indicate that with as few as ten service levels, the performance penalty compared to a continuous-rate network is less than 10% of the total amount of bandwidth requested for a wide variety of LSP data rate distributions.

A Brief History of MPLS Usage in IPv6

Recent researches have stated the fast deployment of IPv6. It has been demonstrated that IPv6 grows much faster, being so more and more adopted by both Internet service providers but also by servers and end-hosts. In parallel, researches have been conducted to discover and assess the usage of MPLS tunnels. Indeed, recent developments in the ICMP protocol make certain categories of MPLS tunnels ...

Unveiling the MPLS Structure on Internet Topology

Recently, researches have been conducted to discover and assess the usage of MPLS tunnels. Indeed, recent developments in the ICMP protocol make certain categories of MPLS tunnels transparent to traceroute probing. Additional techniques have been proposed to reveal the presence of MPLS tunnels when they do not explicitly appear in traceroute. It has been shown that MPLS is a very well deployed ...

Mechanism for Performing Label Switched Path Ping (LSP Ping) over MPLS Tunnels

This document describes methods for performing LSP ping (specified in RFC 4379) traceroute over MPLS tunnels and for traceroute of stitched MPLS Label Switched Paths (LSPs). The techniques outlined in RFC 4379 are insufficient to perform traceroute Forwarding Equivalency Class (FEC) validation and path discovery for an LSP that goes over other MPLS tunnels or for a stitched LSP. This document d...

Evaluation of Scalability and Bandwidth Efficiency of Multipoint to Multipoint Hierarchy for Fast Recovery in Mpls Networks

Multi-Point to Multi-Point Traffic Engineering (MP2MP-TE) leads to an important scalability in Multi Protocol Label Switching-Traffic Engineering (MPLS-TE) networks. This paper emphasizes on the support of Fast-reroute (FRR) in MPLS-TE networks by using MP2MP bypass TE-tunnels. Hence, one MP2MP bypass TE-tunnel can be used to protect several primary TE-tunnels. During failure, the primary TE-tu...
